Valuation

In my role as a Registrar looking after an extensive and varied collection I have found being able to call on Colin’s expertise invaluable.

Registrar, National Collection

VALUATION IS AN IMPORTANT ASPECT TO OWNING ANY COLLECTION.

TAKING DUE CARE AND DILIGENCE IN WILL NOT ONLY PROTECT THE ITEMS WE ALL HOLD DEAR BUT MAKE OWNING THEM SIMPLER, SAFER AND MORE PLEASURABLE. WHILE VALUATION FOR INSURANCE CAN SEEM TO MANY AN EXTRA COST IN OWNING A COLLECTION, IT NOT ONLY PROTECTS BOTH THE COLLECTION AND OWNER.

There is perhaps no other part of our business which takes the as much care and contact with the client. Valuations need to be tailored product and service to the needs of each individual client. Trying to make a valuation fit a standard framework does not give the result most client expect. Working closely to identify the needs of the valuation and the hopeful outcome we can tailor our products from simple inventory to fully illustrated and catalogued bound volumes.

Valuations fall into three main categories, Sale, Insurance and Inheritance Tax / Probate and a tailored product can be provided for all of these.

A sensible valuation for insurance is not just a tool for the insurance company but one which can be used to make sure your policy is fit for purpose and often lowers the cost of cover. Ultimately it can protect you from many issues should the worst happen. We offer not only stand alone valuation for renewal but also a rolling programme of re valuation when additions or disposals are made, meaning not only are you aware of current market trends but also keeps current levels of cover correct, saving you money.

Valuation for sale is an important stepping stone in selling any item or collection giving the first guideline in what will be the best route forward to sale. This area is often overlooked by collectors who enthusiastically go to market missing a simple piece of information, sensible current market values. Having an unbiased basis to begin negotiation means you are in full control of the facts.

An often overlooked, yet very important aspect of valuations, is tax planning and ultimately inheritance tax / probate valuation. Having valuations in place before they are needed not only makes the process simpler but can save on taxes and costs. Working closely with collectors and families at these highly sensitive and personal times is an important aspect of this service.

The first step in any of these valuations is discussion between client and R. L. Christie and we welcome the opportunity to discuss your needs and how and what we can offer.
