Registrar, National Collection

A TRUSTED NAME, ESTABLISHED IN EDINBURGH IN 1821,

R.L. CHRISTIE ARE ONE OF SCOTLAND’S LONGEST ESTABLISHED NAMES IN SILVER AND JEWELLERY, AND A REPUTATION FOR QUALITY IN ANTIQUES AND SILVERWARE.

R.L. CHRISTIE, EDINBURGH

R. L. Christie has one of the longest established names in silver and jewellery within Scotland. Founded in the heart of Edinburgh in 1821 by John McKenzie, originally as a jewellers and hardware merchants, the company came down through the family via his daughter. By 1853 she and her husband Robert Livingstone Christie had taken over the business, re branded as ‘R. L. Christie watchmaker & Jewellers’ and moved to the iconic gallery and workshop at 17 – 20 Bank Street, just of Edinburgh’s historic Royal Mile.

By the Victorian era concentrating on jewellery, watches and silverware from our own workshops, with in house craftsmen cemented the reputation for fine workmanship and high quality products. A familiar name to Edinburgh and Scotland’s elite meant the business continued unbroken at these premises until the early 2000’s.

Now focusing on antique, vintage and historic pieces the reputation in quality and workmanship crosses over and we strive to keep and improve this long appreciated reputation.
