A vintage Scottish silver and citrine brooch by Robert Allison, Glasgow, 1973
An oval shaped brooch formed of an interlace border supporting a reeded arched domed centre which has an architecturally formed claw setting holding an oval cut citrine. The reverse has a hinged steel pin with scroll safety clasp.
The Edinburgh hallmarks on this piece have been poorly struck and while the town and sterling standard marks are clear, the date letter has some distortion. It appears to be the gothic ‘S’ for 1973. The maker’s punch ‘RA’ was first registered in 1941 and used until 1982 so the item must date to this period.
