This vintage silver paper knife (or letter opener) is decorated with a Celtic open-knotwork handle set with an oval faceted smoky quartz. The design closely resembles the work of the Ballater silversmith, William Robb.
The firm William Dunningham and Co. appears to have been established in 1882 and produced a wide range of jewellery, silver accessories and silver mounted horn items. Dunningham died in 1926 although the firm carried on until 1958. The company had marks registered with the Edinburgh and Chester Assay Offices.
