Silver ‘Tara brooch’ replica by Iona Legends, hallmarked Edinburgh, 2002

This brooch is a version of the so-called Tara Brooch, an early medieval brooch discovered in 1850 near the seashore at Bettystown, Co. Meath, Ireland. The reverse is set with a hinged pin and safety clasp and is hallmarked 925 sterling silver. It was made by the Scottish firm Iona Legends.

This iconic Celtic brooch has been copied since its discovery in various sizes and quality, with this particular example being among the finer and larger. The original can be seen in the National Museum of Ireland, Dublin.
