Silver and enamel brooch by Jane Short, Brighton, hallmarked London, 1986

A silver navette-shaped, convex, brooch depicting an abstract female profile in shades of blue enamel with tones of yellow, turquoise and rust-orange together with gold detailing. The reverse has a hinged steel pin and c-scroll safety catch and is stamped ‘JS’ for Jane Short together with London hallmarks for sterling silver, 1986.

Jane Short is a renowned enameller with expertise in applying her colour to both jewellery and silverware which she has been doing since the 1970s. Her work can be found in several public collections including the National Museums Scotland, the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, and the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford.
