A Victorian silver mounted sgian dubh, by James Robertson (possibly), Edinburgh, 1891

Sgian dubh displaying a carved wooden basketweave handle with silver studded detail. The lower mount and pommel of the handle are of a reeded pattern, with the latter set with a foil backed crystal. The carbon steel blade has a scalloped back edge and single fuller. The brown leather covered wooden scabbard has Celtic knotwork mounts. The reverse is hallmarked sterling silver, Edinburgh, 1891, and the maker’s mark ‘J.R’ which may be for James Robertson (of which there are several).

Condition:

Due to the age of the item, the original steel blade shows some natural toning and discoloration, and the leather on the scabbard has faded in parts.
